History

W. J. Matthews is a firm of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Tax Advisers and a Registered Auditor.  The practice was established in 1919 by W J Matthews who was succeeded more than 60 years ago by his son, the late W Trefor Matthews.  Currently the practice has two partners, Laura M. Adams and David Chidley.

The business ran for many decades from 34 Castle Square, but relocated some 15 years ago to the current offices at 11-15 Bridge Street, Caernarfon.

We are a bilingual practice providing all the services through the medium of both English and Welsh.

Laura M. Adams
After graduating from the University of Bath with a degree in Natural Sciences Laura qualified as a Chartered Accountant at a practice in Ascot, Berkshire.  She then joined the internal audit team at a major oil and gas company for 5 years.  Laura returned with her young family to North Wales and back into practice in 2018, becoming a partner at W J Matthews in 2019.
David Chidley
After gaining a degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, David began working at a Local Accountancy practice qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1996.  He joined W J Matthews & Son in 2000 and began studying for his CTA qualification, qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2001.  David specialises in auditing and taxation for all types of business from sole-trading to large limited companies.
